5 Questions With Malunga

Malunga is an artist who is consistently proving that she deserves her place in the music industry.  From creating different sounds in each track she creates to having big radio support from Radio 1 and 1Xtra.  The East-London based artist has produced some ear-candy music in her new track ‘Fly’ and we interviewed her about the writing process and more in this week’s Five Questions With.

Your new track is a different sound to others like ‘Toy’ – what’s your inspiration behind that idea?

This new track Fly is different because I wanted to take a fresh approach. I think it was important  to show a more vulnerable and raw side to me and my voice. It felt good to share that part of me because usually the production is more heavy but I got to tell my story in a more delicate way which felt real.

Listen to “Fly” while reading the feature:

You’ve been praised by the likes of Radio 1 and 1extra, how did that feel?

It feels nice to have the radio support from people that I respect in the industry. But most of all having my fans behind me really gives me the boost I need.

When it comes to songwriting, do you need to be in a certain mood or can you write anywhere?

I can write and express myself anywhere when it comes to writing. I think it’s always emotive, I have to be provoked by something and get it off my chest. I enjoy the writing process and not just songs but poetry, stories and my thoughts. It’s all very therapeutic for me.

If you could have anyone feature on a track, who would it be and why?

If I could have a feature I would choose someone like SZA I think she’s a powerful story teller and has such a uniqueness about her and her music. Plus I love her previous album Ctrl.

Finally, when we’re out of this pandemic, what’s the first thing you’ll do?

When we’re out of this pandemic the first thing I’ll do is go clubbing with my girls! Haha, I need to shake a leg!
